How I am going to tackle the first day of the trout season,of course depends on the river and weather conditions.
Mid March up here in Scotland is probably going to be cold wet windy and there could even be snow and ice around. The river could be un-fishable due to flood,in that case I will be visiting the local still waters for a spot of rainbow trout fishing.(Tinto)
Anyway assuming that I manage to get on the river I will have to assess on the day, the method I will use.
I wouldn't expect there to be any rising fish,so I can forget fishing dry fly, with spiders and wet flies possibly ruled out as well,so it will probably be weighted nymphs.
My set up then would be 10ft #3 rod fished Czech nymph or French leader style.
